Fairfax Symphony Orchestra - Conducting with Girl Power
starts at 8:00 pm
This year, the Fairfax Symphony is "auditioning" the six finalists (out of 249 applicants) for music director. One of these six is a woman, and she will be conducting the November 22 concert for the Fairfax Symphony.
Her name is Laura Jackson and she is going to raise the music roof and perhaps just might break another glass ceiling. Don't miss this opportunity to see something unique in Fairfax, a woman conductor at the podium, leading one of the finest per-service orchestras in the country today!
With so few women conductors and we encourage our divas to join in and support this auspicious public audition. In 52 years, the Fairfax Symphony has grown form being a small group of friends who wanted to play their instruments together to a professional orchestra numbering nearly 100 musicians. Through the years the FSO has played at the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap, won numerous awards, played at the inauguration of Governor Charles S. Robb and was recently named "Best Local Orchestra" by readers of Northern Virginia Magazine.
