Women's Campaign: Get Engaged!
The Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter is pleased to announce "Get Engaged!" -- our new initiative to connect women who share the vision of a world without Alzheimer's. It's about bringing women together to help move awareness of Alzheimer's to the forefronnt of America's consciousness. Through the combined power of women in our community, we will shine a light on this disease that is poised to reach epidemic proportions.
More women are impacted by Alzheimer's and play the role of caregiver for their families. Suprisingly, more women die each year from Alzheimer's than they do from breast cancer! One in six women is at risk of developing Alzheimer's in their lifetime, compared to one in ten men. In most families, women are the primary caregivers for multiple family members of various generations. They often juggle work, family and caregiving responsibilities. The chronic stress of caregiving can seriously impact a woman's health.
To address these increasing concerns, the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter is inviting women who care about Alzheimer's and its impact on families, friends and colleagues to "Get Engaged!".
We've seen the collective power of women sharing a common goal. Our three-year goal is to connect with 5,000 community-minded women to actively help fulfill our mission to create a world without Alzheimer's.
You can make a difference NOW through advocacy, philanthropy and volunteerism.
There are four simple ways to "Get Engaged!":
- Share your story to help inspire others to join this campaign. How has Alzheimer's impacted your life? Why are you engaged?
- Connect with family, friends, coworkers, clubs, sororities, etc. and get involved together. There a myriad of ways we will help you get engaged.
- Give a financial gift, secure a corporate sponsorship and get others to give, too! Join an elite circle of women leaders in our community by becoming a member of this life-changing campaign with a gift of $5,000.
- Voice the importance of help and hope for those impacted by the disease. Become an advocate in your circle of friends, community and organizations.
In the coming year, there will be
many "connections"-- opportunities to bring
women together in a variety of ways, including
an interactive Web site, casual gatherings in
homes, larger social fundraising and awareness
events, workplace awareness activities and a
celebratory luncheon on
Friday, May
14, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel, Washington
